30) Sandaya - Burmese Piano

Here I collected some interesting links of Burmese Piano players, which give an impressive insight into this style. I gain some inspiration out of this for my work as well at the end of the post.  In 2016 in Burma I bought two books with scores for  Sandaya, the Burmese piano.  The piano has quite a history in Myanmar.  It came with the colonial times. Soon the Burmese people integrated the piano into their music and developed an own style.  In the beginning they tuned the pianos to their traditional tunings. Which must have been a lot of work. But soon it changed and the Burmese started tuning their original instruments in a more or less well-tempered tuning. Imitating the piano. 13) Thar Nge. A young burmese singer. I accompanied him on the piano for some highly clicked youtube videos! ;-)

In Gitameit in 2014 I met Thar Nge during our jazz workshop week for the Gitameit music center.  He is a young and very talented singer, I remember him as so eager.  He just wanted to learn as many things as he could. He tried to find a way to broaden his knowledge and develop his talents as a musician. We were thinking about Germany/Europe. But these plans excelled my power to help him. There was no time left, our schedule was too busy. But in 2015 I remembered my promise and we videotaped two tunes. Tagu Films, a young burmese film team did the wonderful job.
